On September 11, 2001, a terrible act of violence tore through the very heart of America. In what seemed like an instant, thousands of lives were lost, families were shattered, and the country was left reeling.

Yet in that darkness, courage, sacrifice, and unity emerged as first responders rushed toward danger, ordinary citizens helped strangers, members of the military provided support across the country, and communities began to grieve and offer aid however they could.

Even after more than two decades, the memory of that day remains vivid, not only because of what was lost but also because of what was revealed: the strength, compassion, and resolve of the American people.

A Day That Changed a Nation

In the early morning of September 11, 2001, terrorists hijacked four airliners. They crashed two of the jets (American Airlines Flight 11 and United Flight 175) into the Twin Towers of the World Trade Center. A third aircraft struck the Pentagon in Washington, D.C.

The fourth jet, United Flight 93, never reached its intended target. The passengers on board, aware of the other attacks, fought the hijackers, and the plane crashed in a field in Pennsylvania.

Nearly 3,000 people died that day. They were civilians, first responders, and service members.

But they were much more than statistics. They were fathers, mothers, siblings, children, and friends. They were people going to work like they did every other day, they were people taking an early morning flight to get home to their families, they were firefighters and police officers dedicating another day to helping the people of their cities. Their loss reshaped families, cities, and the national consciousness.

Courage in the Face of Crisis

When catastrophe struck, many of our fellow citizens responded with courage. In the midst of horror, stories of bravery remind us that we’re at our best when we work together.

First Responders and Emergency Personnel

The number of firefighters who died that day—343 from the FDNY alone—is a painful testament to the scale of sacrifice. Many risked and lost their lives entering the burning towers, sifting through rubble, providing medical care, and guiding evacuees down stairwells.

Port Authority police officer Will Jimeno, for example, survived being trapped in the rubble of the World Trade Center and later shared harrowing accounts of those moments. The Vulcan Society, an organization of Black firefighters in New York, lost 12 members who were fathers, husbands, and community leaders.

A Call Answered by the Armed Forces

Beyond the immediate actions in New York, at the Pentagon, and in Pennsylvania, the U.S. military responded by providing assistance at disaster sites, ramping up homeland defense, deploying overseas, and expanding existing missions.

The deployments and elevated security began immediately and stretched out over years. Military families, often less visible in the headlines, bore long separations, worry, and the difficulties of supporting loved ones under intense stress, all while maintaining everyday life at home.

Ordinary People Helping Ordinary People

Not everyone who was a hero on 9/11 wore a uniform. Flight attendants communicated the hijackers’ moves to help ground response efforts. Strangers donated blood, opened their homes, gave shelter to people who were displaced, and much more. On the waterways, boat captains and crews organized an unprecedented “boatlift,” carrying tens of thousands of people away from danger around New York Harbor.

9/11 Remembrance: A Legacy of Unity and Service

In the weeks after 9/11, there was an outpouring of community service, mutual support, and patriotism. Neighborhoods organized volunteer efforts, people donated money and goods to relief causes, and many took up new roles in helping others through charities or simply being present. Institutions like churches, schools, and civic groups became hubs of solace.

This legacy also spurred improvements in emergency management, communication among emergency services, and health monitoring programs for first responders exposed to dust and toxins.

Annual Remembrances Across the Country

Every year, the nation slows down to remember 9/11. While the substance of these ceremonies varies, the message is the same: we will never forget.

National Ceremonies

At Ground Zero in New York City, thousands gather to read the names of the nearly 3,000 victims. Moments of silence mark the times when each tower was hit and when they collapsed. Bells toll. The National September 11 Memorial & Museum offers exhibits, oral histories, and other opportunities for learning more about that day and its aftermath.

In Shanksville, Pennsylvania, the Flight 93 National Memorial includes the “Tower of Voices,” a 93-foot structure equipped with wind chimes, each representing one of the 40 passengers and crew. The Pentagon Memorial honors the 184 people who died there, with benches arranged to let people reflect on the impact of the attack.

Local Ceremonies

In smaller cities and towns, memorial runs, candlelight vigils, placing roses, and reading names aloud in schools continue year after year. These observances are essential because they allow us to mourn and to educate. For younger generations who don’t remember 9/11, these ceremonies are gateways to history, empathy, and understanding.

Why We Need to Keep Remembering

Remembrance of 9/11 is not simply about looking back; it’s about carrying the lessons forward.

It matters that school curricula include detailed accounts of what happened on 9/11. To help ensure that students understand both the facts and the human dimension of the attacks, they need to know how the attacks unfolded, the personal stories of loss, heroism, and recovery.

Because September 11 is such a pivotal day in America’s history, many oral histories, children’s books, and classroom programs teach the events in age-appropriate ways.

But learning (and teaching) about 9/11 shouldn’t be relegated to school. Intergenerational conversations—where family members share their memories of the day, show photos, and recount what they saw or heard—help make the history vivid. Without conversations like this, we risk forgetting the event, but we also risk losing sight of the values of compassion, courage, and solidarity that grew from our shared experience.

The Enduring Power of Symbols

Like many other tragedies, one of the ways that we as Americans have tried to cope with 9/11 is through symbolism. From permanent memorials to symbolic gestures, September 11 continues to occupy our thoughts. Some of the most common symbols we’ve employed since 2001 include:

The two reflecting pools of the National September 11 Memorial: Located at the site of the Twin Towers, the pools feature the names of those lost inscribed around the water.

The Flight 93 National Memorial’s Tower of Voices: This memorial uses wind and sound as a beautiful, melancholy way to remember those who gave their lives to save others.

America’s Response Monument in Liberty Park: This monument honors the military and national response.

Local memorials, such as “Postcards” in Staten Island: This monument features plaques and silhouettes of locals who lost their lives, providing communities with a place for personal connection.

Honoring the Legacy with Purpose

Honoring 9/11 means more than remembering: it means acting. Organizations across the country engage in service work in memory of that day by holding blood drives, providing support to first responders, running programs for veterans, and offering assistance to families affected by long-term health problems caused by recovery and cleanup efforts. Personal acts like visiting memorials, supporting causes connected to 9/11, and standing with families who lost loved ones show our fellow citizens that we haven’t forgotten them.

Whether volunteering, mentoring, contributing to memorial upkeep, or simply passing along stories in your own family, it’s important to reflect on what happened that day and how it has continued to impact our country.

Remember. Reflect. Respect.

Some groups create commemorative pieces, such as paintings, sculptures, and memorials, that become part of annual observances. These are not just decorations, but anchors for grief, memory, and hope.

Through ceremony, storytelling, shared silence, and symbols, remembering 9/11 is about honoring the best of who we are—our ability to care, to rise after tragedy, and to hold each other up.
At Lone Star Challenge Coins, we remain committed to honoring the service of those who helped our fellow citizens on that day and preserving the memory of those we lost with care and respect. In remembering 9/11, we affirm not only the remembrance of those lost but also the courage, unity, and the resilient fabric of community that emerged and that continues to define America.

Your wedding day is about celebrating your union and commitment to your spouse—but it’s also about coming together with the people you care about most as you start a special new chapter in your life. Family members and close friends bring joy to your wedding day as they share in your excitement and shower you with best wishes for the future.

To honor your guests, it’s customary to give wedding favors as a token of appreciation. But there’s just one problem—it’s often a struggle to think of unique, thoughtful, and personalized gifts. You don’t want to give just anything.
1. Custom Engraved Challenge Coins

Let’s face it—most wedding favors gather dust or are left behind. But imagine giving your guests something unforgettable: customized challenge coins that tell your love story. These stunning keepsakes can be personalized with your wedding date, family name, location, or any detail that makes your day uniquely yours.

With endless design options to create a one-of-a-kind look, these coins aren’t just mementos—they’re treasures your loved ones will cherish and display proudly.

2. Personalized Bottle Openers

Giving a sentimental and practical gift is always a smart choice. Personalized bottle openers are one of our favorite examples. They can be paired with craft beer, sparkling water, or a fun-flavored soda, creating a cohesive and thoughtful gift experience. Plus, they can be enhanced with custom details like your names, wedding date, a meaningful quote, or even a design that ties into your theme.

3. Custom Belt Buckles

Belt buckles are a unique keepsake they can actually use every day—whether it’s for a casual outing or a special event. And the best part? They can be created with custom details like your wedding date, initials, or a special message.

Additionally, they’re the perfect personalized wedding guest gifts for couples planning a Western-themed wedding. Belt buckles really tie it all together!

4. Customized Playing Cards

If there’s one gift people will always use, regardless of their age or interests, it’s playing cards—because who doesn’t enjoy gathering around the table for a bit of friendly, competitive fun? Giving cards ensures every shuffle of the deck will remind loved ones of your unforgettable day and the joy you shared. Whether you choose custom art or your initials for a monogrammed wedding favor, you and your guests will love them.

5. Engraved Keychains

You can never go wrong with engraved keychains as personalized wedding favors. Made from materials like sleek stainless steel, rustic wood, or acrylic, they offer endless customization options. And, of course, you can add names, dates, or a special message to turn them into one-of-a-kind keepsakes your guests will take with them wherever they go.

6. Custom Lapel Pins

Lapel pins are stylish and customizable wedding favors your guests can reuse time and time again. Whether they take the traditional approach of pinning it to a suit jacket lapel or they use it to accessorize their favorite handbag or hat, a little piece of your special day will always be with them. Plus, you can choose from hard or soft enamel finishes and an array of plating options and designs!

7. Personalized Coasters

Coasters can easily be personalized with a meaningful quote, a picture of you and your spouse, or your new family surname, making them a fantastic option for a unique and thoughtful gift. Looking for engraved wedding favors? For a little extra, you can get coasters made from a range of etchable materials, like wood, stone, or even leather.

8. Custom Luggage Tags

Imagine your guests packing to leave your destination wedding, smiling as they attach a personalized travel tag to their luggage. That makes them a great wedding favor idea–they’re as practical as they are thoughtful. Simply personalize them with names, dates, or a cute message, and you’re set!

9. Miniature Bottles of Wine or Spirits

Beverages like wine and spirits are a staple for any celebration. Why not treat your guests by taking care of the first round? With miniature bottles, it’s more affordable to buy enough for everyone and your guests are sure to appreciate the gesture. We recommend adding a bit of extra flair by pairing each bottle with a wine glass charm, a scented candle, or a small, stylish cheese knife.

10. Personalized Mint Tins

Whatever your wedding style, mint tins can fit right in. Whether you’re going for elegant floral designs or fun, quirky quotes, you can make them completely your own. Pick colors, fonts, or patterns that match your vibe, and these personalized wedding giveaways will blend beautifully with your décor while adding that extra personal touch.

11. Engraved Compact Mirrors

Pocket mirrors are one of those little essentials that everyone appreciates. Your guests can tuck them into a purse, bag, or pocket. They’ll get a sweet reminder of your wedding day every time they use them. If you’ve been looking to personalize wedding favors, engraving each mirror with your wedding date or a thank you message is a great way to show you care about giving something thoughtful.

12. Custom Seed Packets

Looking for eco-friendly favors for a wedding? Personalized seed packets are an excellent way to give back to the planet while celebrating your love. You can choose flowers, herbs, or even vegetables that reflect your wedding theme, then add special touches like a photo or your wedding details to make it extra unique and memorable.

Baseball trading pins are a fun and fascinating tradition that gives teams, players, and fans a unique way to celebrate the game. At Lone Star Challenge Coins, we craft custom trading pins that showcase your team’s identity with personalized features like logos, player names, spinners, and more.

Whether you’re part of a youth league, a travel team, or you’re a dedicated baseball lapel pin collector, our expert designers bring your vision to life with exceptional craftsmanship and unmatched service. Discover how custom pins can make a lasting impact at every event and tournament.

The World of Baseball Trading Pins

Trading pins are special to the baseball community. They symbolize team spirit, camaraderie, and tradition. At tournaments and events, players trade pins, creating memories that last beyond the season. Each pin tells a unique story, reflecting a team’s history, accomplishments, and values.

For collectors, pins showcase their passion for the sport. Custom trading pins feature creative designs with special effects like glitter, spinners, and custom shapes, making them highly sought-after. Trading sessions typically become highlights of tournaments, giving players and fans a fun way to connect, share stories, and grow their collections.

What Are Trading Pins?

Trading pins are custom-designed collectibles representing teams, events, or organizations, especially in sports like baseball. They feature unique designs that include team logos, mascots, and special effects.

In baseball, custom sports pins symbolize team pride and tradition. Players exchange them at tournaments and events, creating opportunities for connection and fostering team spirit. Beyond their role in the game, trading pins capture special memories and milestones from each season.

The History and Evolution of Baseball Pins

Baseball label pins have a rich history, dating back to the early 20th century when teams and manufacturers first used them as promotional items. Initially, these pins were handed out at games or events to promote team spirit and loyalty. Over time, the designs became more intricate, and fans began trading them, leading to their rise as collectible items.

By the 1980s, with the growth of youth sports leagues and organized tournaments, pin trading in baseball became a staple of team culture. Today, they’re sought after by collectors and fans, with countless teams creating limited-edition custom trading pins for special events.

Designing Your Own Baseball Trading Pins

Thinking about designing custom lapel pins for your next tournament? Consider these key elements to create a pin representing your team or event.

Colors: Choose colors that align with your team’s identity or the event theme. Vibrant, contrasting colors make your pin eye-catching and memorable while staying true to your team’s color scheme, making the pin more meaningful for fans and players.

Logo: Your team’s logo or a unique design element should be the focal point of the pin. Make sure your logo is clear and visible to reflect your team’s identity and spirit.

Size: The right pin size ensures that all design elements are legible and balanced. Larger pins allow for more detail, while smaller ones can be easier to wear or trade.

Custom Sports Pins: Options and Ideas

When designing custom pins, the possibilities are endless! You can select from different shapes, sizes, and materials to craft a pin that perfectly embodies your team or event. From classic round pins to more unique shapes like stars, baseballs, or team mascots, the choice is yours. Plus, you can customize the material to match the look and feel of your design. Choose from soft enamel for bold colors, die-struck metal for a more classic look, or even 3D designs for added depth and texture.

Want to take your design to the next level? Consider adding special features like glitter for a sparkling effect, spinners for interactive fun, or glow-in-the-dark elements for a unique twist. Get creative by incorporating your team’s mascot, using a commemorative theme, or celebrating milestones like championships. These pin upgrades make your pins stand out and give them a personalized touch that players and fans will love.

The Significance of Trading Pins in Baseball Culture

Over the years, trading pins have become a beloved tradition, playing a significant role in fostering team spirit and building a sense of community. These pins symbolize pride, accomplishment, and unity at tournaments and events. Players exchange pins as a way to connect with each other, forming bonds across teams and leagues.

When it comes to designing baseball pins for trading, personalization makes all the difference. With custom designs, teams can express their identity and showcase their creativity. Whether it’s a team logo, a commemorative event, or a quirky design, custom trading pins become cherished collectibles that fans and players hold onto for years.
In this post, we’ll explore what makes presidential challenge coins unique, their fascinating history, and how they’re used.

What Is a Presidential Challenge Coin?

A presidential challenge coin is a specially designed coin used as a token of appreciation, recognition, or commemoration. These challenge coins are given out by the President of the United States and serve as symbols of respect and gratitude for the recipients. Traditionally, they’re given to military personnel, foreign dignitaries, and other important people.

Origins of the Presidential Challenge Coin

The tradition of challenge coins is rooted in military history. Over time, the practice evolved, and modern presidents began using these coins to honor individuals for their service and achievements. Their exclusivity and connection to the nation’s highest office make them particularly unique.

Early Military Roots

The concept of challenge coins originated in the military, where they were used to boost morale and symbolize unity. Units often crafted coins with unique designs that represented their team’s identity and shared purpose.

Challenge coins are still found throughout the branches of the military and even in the Secret Service.

Presidential Coins in Modern History

Presidential challenge coins gained prominence during the Clinton administration and have since become a celebrated tradition. Since the 90s, every president has further popularized their use, often presenting these coins during visits to military bases or diplomatic engagements. They’ve become iconic symbols of the presidency and national pride.

Unique Features of Presidential Challenge Coins

The challenge coin of a President stands out for its intricate designs and deep symbolism. In this section, we’ll highlight what makes these coins unique and the elements that have come to define them.

Design Elements

Presidential challenge coins are typically made from high-quality materials and feature the Seal of the President, intricate engravings of the White House, and other elements. These design elements often highlight specific focuses of a President’s term.

Symbolic Meaning

Each challenge coin carries a unique meaning, but for most U.S. presidents, their coins have focused on messages of unity, patriotism, and respect. Because many of these coins are given to military personnel, they connect the President to the forces he commands in a way that is deeply rooted in historical significance.

How Presidential Challenge Coins Are Used Today

Presidential challenge coins have ceremonial uses, collectible value, and they have even had an impact on corporate and governmental custom coins.

Diplomatic and Ceremonial Use

Presidents use challenge coins as gifts during ceremonies and diplomatic events. These coins serve as meaningful gestures of goodwill and recognition. They are also given out to active military personnel and other people that the President meets or honors.

Collectible Value

Authentic presidential challenge coins are highly sought after by collectors. Their rarity, historical significance, and connection to specific presidencies make them valuable additions to these collections. If you’re trying to figure out how to get a presidential challenge coin, do a good deal of research on presidential challenge coins for sale, to make sure you are purchasing an authentic coin and not a recreation.

Corporate and Government Adaptations

Inspired by the presidential tradition, many businesses and organizations, including law enforcement, now create custom challenge coins. These coins are used to recognize achievements, promote unity, and commemorate milestones.

The Legacy of Presidential Challenge Coins

Presidential challenge coins symbolize tradition, unity, and recognition. Their enduring legacy inspires organizations and individuals to create their own meaningful designs. At Lone Star Challenge Coins, we’re proud to carry on this tradition by crafting coins that honor achievements and preserve memories.

In the United States, military medals are given to service members who distinguish themselves through their work. These medals are often awarded for acts of bravery, heroism, selflessness, or dedication.

Military medals are awarded to members of all five branches of the US Armed Forces, including the Army, Navy, Air Force, Marines, and Coast Guard. They are often given for service to the United States during combat, although they can also be awarded for heroic acts during peacetime.

There are many types of military honors, each of which signifies a different level or type of service. Let’s take a look at the different types of military medals in order of precedence.

Understanding Military Medals and Their Importance

Medals have long been part of the US military tradition and customs. This practice started during the American Revolution when George Washington created the Badge of Military Merit in 1782. In the mid-19th century, the US Congress authorized the creation of more military medals. This includes the Medal of Honor, which is still given today and is the highest-ranking award on the military medal chart.

Over the years, the US Armed Forces have created a variety of other medals and awards to recognize different types of military service. Some medals are available to members of all service branches, while some are only given to those in specific branches.

Currently, medals honor various aspects of military service, including valor, achievements, participation in specific campaigns, or long-standing service and dedication. All of these factors play an important role in the success of the US military, which is why they are honored so heavily.

These medals are something to aspire to for military members across all branches. They are symbols of respect, honor, and recognition within the military community and the civilian population. Receiving a military medal signifies that you have put your country’s safety and security first and served to the absolute best of your ability.

Military Medals Chart by Branch

The military awards chart in the US varies between branches. While some awards are given to members of any branch, most medals are specific to certain service branches.

These medals reflect the distinct traditions and values of each service branch. Some medals even feature branch-specific colors and design elements, making them instantly recognizable to other service members. Each branch has a unique hierarchy of awards. Here’s a breakdown of important military medals by branch.

U.S. Army Medals and Decorations

The Army is the oldest branch of the US military, and many of its traditions have persisted for well over 200 years.

The most prestigious award on the US Army medal chart is the Medal of Honor. This is the highest honor available in the US military. It is given to those who go above and beyond the call of duty with exceptional valor, often after risking their lives. The design for the Army version of this medal features Minerva, the Roman goddess of wisdom, surrounded by a green laurel wreath. The medal is suspended from a bald eagle.

The next-highest Army medals are the Distinguished Service Cross and the Silver Star, which honor exceptional valor and bravery in combat. From there, the next of the Army medals in order is the Distinguished Service Medal, given to service members in combat and non-combat positions who have excelled in a position of great responsibility.

Other highly-ranked medals in this branch include the Army Commendation Medal and the Army Achievement Medal. The Army Commendation Medal can be given for both acts of heroism and meritorious service, while the Army Achievement Medal primarily recognizes acts of service and outstanding achievements. These awards are given to service members who are not eligible for higher-level awards but have still distinguished themselves through their military service.

U.S. Navy and Marine Corps Medals and Decorations

Both the US Navy and the US Marine Corps have their own medals and awards. The order of military medals in these branches is similar to that of the Army, but many awards are unique to Naval and Marine service. Although these are two different branches of the military, they share many of the same medals.

Navy and Marine Corps members can both receive the Medal of Honor, the most prestigious honor in these branches. Like the Army Medal of Honor, this medal’s design features Minerva, the goddess of wisdom.

The next-most prestigious medal in these branches is the Navy Cross, which is similar to the Army’s Distinguished Service Cross. Other high-level medals include the Silver Star and Bronze Star and branch-specific medals for achievements and commendation.

On top of that, there are campaign-specific medals that are specific to these branches, including the Marine Corps Expeditionary Medal and the Navy Expeditionary Medal. These medals are awarded to service members who participate in combat or other operations on foreign territory.

U.S. Air Force Medals and Decorations

The US Air Force was founded in the 1920s as the Army Air Corps. It was part of the Army rather than being its own branch of the military. Aviation technology improved over time and became an essential part of many military operations, which prompted Congress to create the US Air Force in 1947.

When the Air Force was part of the Army, members would receive Army Air Corps distinctions. When the Air Force became a separate military branch, these were spun off into separate medals. The Air Force medal structure is very similar to the Army medals chart, although there are some distinctions. It’s also important to note that many Space Force members are eligible for Air Force medals, as the Space Force is a relatively new branch that does not have its own medal structure.

As with the other branches, the highest award in the Air Force is the Medal of Honor. The Air Force version of the Medal of Honor features the Statue of Liberty surrounded by a laurel wreath. The top of the medal features unique lightning bolt detailing.

The next-highest honor in the Air Force is the Air Force Cross, which is equivalent to the Distinguished Service Cross. Members of this branch can also earn the Distinguished Flying Cross. The Distinguished Flying Cross is given for aerial achievements and heroism while in flight, while the Air Force Cross can be given for action taken in combat in any capacity.

U.S. Coast Guard Medals and Decorations

US Coast Guard members can also earn the Medal of Honor as the branch’s highest award. The next-highest medal for this branch is the Coast Guard Cross. Other notable medals include the Coast Guard Distinguished Service Medal, which recognizes merit in a role of great responsibility, and the Coast Guard Medal, which recognizes various forms of non-combat heroism.

Military Medal Precedence and Ordering

Military members wear their medals in a specific order based on their prestigiousness. This is known as “precedence.” The highest-ranking medals are worn first.

Although each branch of the military may have slight variations in precedence, all branches follow a similar hierarchical structure for cohesion.

The Order of Precedence for Displaying Medals

The military ribbons and medals chart generally follows this order of precedence for displaying or wearing medals:

Medal of Honor

Distinguished Service Cross, Navy Cross, or Air Force Cross

Distinguished Service Medals

Silver Star

There is a complete order of precedence that includes dozens of medals and ribbons from each branch. Each US military branch has resources available to guide service members with the order of precedence.

It’s also possible for US military members to receive medals from allied nations and other foreign organizations as part of their work. Military personnel must be specifically authorized by law to wear these medals. If authorized, these medals should be displayed after all US medals in the order of precedence.

How Medals Are Displayed on Uniforms by Branch

US military service members must follow specific guidelines for placing military medals and ribbons on their uniforms. Medals are generally worn on the left side of the chest, although exact placements vary by branch. These placements also vary between male and female service members to accommodate different body shapes. When wearing both medals and ribbons, ribbons should be worn on the right side of the uniform.

In general, medals are usually reserved for formal uniforms worn to military events and functions. Members do not typically wear medals on their field uniforms, as they could be impractical or dangerous in combat.

Types of Military Medals and Their Meanings

On the military medals chart, there are several different types of awards, each honoring different types of service and heroism. Here are the different types of military medals available and what they represent.

Valor and Gallantry Medals

Many military medals are designed to acknowledge valor or gallantry. They are given out for exceptional acts of courage and bravery in combat. Many recipients of these medals have put their lives at risk as part of their service.

Some of the highest medals for valor include the Medal of Honor, the Distinguished Service Cross and its equivalents, and the Silver Star. The rank of these medals is determined by the extremity and intensity of the service member’s valor.

The President of the United States awards the Medal of Honor, and leaders within specific branches of the military award other valor medals.

Achievement and Service Medals

Achievement and service medals recognize contributions to the military in addition to combat. These include outstanding dedication in roles of great responsibility and unique innovations or noteworthy leadership. These medals are generally given at the discretion of leaders within each branch of the armed forces.

The highest-ranked medals in this category are the Distinguished Service Medals, awarded across all military branches. Other examples of this include the Defense Superior Service Medal, Meritorious Service Medals, and Achievement Medals.

Campaign and Service Ribbons

These medals and ribbons are given out for participation in specific campaigns or missions. They recognize services in significant or noteworthy operations. These awards on the Army ribbon chart are often categorized by the location of the campaign. Some examples of these awards include the Vietnam Service Medal, the Afghanistan Service Medal, and the Antarctica Service Medal.

Foreign Decorations and Awards

It’s also possible for US service members to receive awards from allied nations or even international organizations. However, the US government must approve these awards before they can be worn.

For example, many US military members received awards from allied nations such as France and the United Kingdom during World Wars I and II. Some military members also receive medals from NATO and other international organizations.

How to Preserve and Display Military Medals

Receiving a military medal is a great honor, so it’s important for current and former service members to keep them in good condition. This will help the medal last for generations to come and preserve its symbolic integrity.

If you are displaying medals in your home or in a public institution, keep them right-side up and protected in a frame or box. If multiple medals are displayed at once, you may opt to keep them in the order of precedence.

Care and Preservation Tips for Military Medals

To prevent your military medals from decaying, it’s important that they are stored in a cool, dry place. This helps prevent them from tarnishing or wearing down. When possible, use archival-quality display materials, including acid-free mounting tools.

Displaying Military Medals with Pride

Because military medals represent such important achievements, displaying them with pride and respect is important. Consider using high-quality shadow boxes or frames that are designed to protect the medals. If displaying the medals publicly, you may want to add subtle lighting to make them more visible.

Order Custom Medals Today

Military medals are respected symbols of honor and service. They recognize the essential work that service members do to protect American interests at home and abroad. Each medal and recipient has its own unique story, and we encourage you to learn more about them.

If you’d like to create personalized custom medals inspired by military traditions, Lone Star Challenge Coins is here to help.
Challenge coins are unique, customizable coins that signify membership in a specific organization. They are particularly popular among law enforcement organizations, including the Secret Service. A Secret Service challenge coin can represent membership in a specific division within the organization or excellent work on a specific assignment. Secret Service members who carry these coins deeply value them, and they serve as a visual representation of their work efforts over the years. Let’s take a closer look at the history, symbolism, and design choices often used in a Secret Service challenge coin.

The Significance of Secret Service Challenge Coins and Pins

In the Secret Service and other law enforcement agencies, challenge coins are a way to signify your service and your achievements to other members. Some members will also wear a Secret Service lapel pin for the same reason. In addition to being deeply meaningful to service members, these coins have unique, eye-catching design elements that make them sought-after collector’s items. Over time, challenge coins can become valued family heirlooms.

History and Tradition

There is a rich history of collecting and sharing challenge coins in all branches of the military and law enforcement , and this culture is also present in the Secret Service. It’s unclear exactly when military members started using challenge coins to represent their service. In the United States, the practice likely originated during World War I , although there’s no clear record of exactly who started it. However, the practice of using special coins to reward military members for service dates back to the Roman Empire. In the Secret Service, leaders often present service members with challenge coins to commemorate their service in a specific division. When service members from different divisions meet, they often share their Secret Service coin to prove their membership and to establish camaraderie. Some Secret Service coins are also given in recognition of particularly excellent work. For example, a Secret Service member might receive an exclusive challenge coin for their work on a specific case. Receiving these coins is a great honor, making them a prized possession for many service members.

Symbolism and Meaning

Carrying a Secret Service challenge coin or wearing a Secret Service pin carries great symbolism. These coins represent the pride, bravery, and dedication associated with the Secret Service. Even after retirement, Secret Service members will continue to carry these coins to look back fondly on their years of service and may even pass them down to their children. For many Secret Service members, challenge coins are a way to prove their service to others, especially in social situations. They serve as a kind of code for service members in specific divisions. Instead of pulling out a badge, Secret Service members can use their coins to establish these relationships. Challenge coins are also excellent conversation starters, as they tell the story of your service.

Exploring the Design Elements

Secret Service challenge coins have a number of unique design elements that make them stand out. Secret Service leaders can create custom challenge coins and pins that focus on specific division names or achievements. You can even create unique challenge coins for each member of a Secret Service team.

Secret Service Seal and Symbols

Most Secret Service coins will feature the classic seal. This seal is a five-point star with the Secret Service name on a blue circle in the middle and a small blue and red symbol in the very center. The points on the star represent the core values of the Secret Service: justice, duty, courage, honor, and loyalty. This seal is instantly recognizable to any Secret Service member, so it is featured prominently on many challenge coins. Some challenge coins will feature another Secret Service symbol or text. For example, they may feature the Secret Service motto, “worthy of trust and confidence.” They may also feature the year 1865, the year the Secret Service was founded. These coins typically use a blue and gold color scheme, as these are the colors featured prominently on the Secret Service badge. Many Secret Service challenge coins also feature elements specific to a certain division or person. For example, they may contain the name of the location you served in or the name of a specific task force.

Incorporating the American Flag

Since working for the Secret Service is considered a very patriotic act, these challenge coins often feature the American flag and other patriotic symbols. The American flag is often displayed prominently on the coin along with other Secret Service symbolism. The coins may also incorporate a red, white, and blue color scheme or other star-and-stripe motifs. Many members will also wear a Secret Service American flag pin and carry these coins. These pins can also be customized to their specific preferences and make an eye-catching addition to formalwear outfits.

Design Your Unique Challenge Coin Today

Custom Secret Service challenge coins provide lasting value to service members. They are a great way to honor achievements, promote pride in the organization, and strengthen bonds among service members. Investing in a unique challenge coin for your Secret Service team members is an excellent way to show appreciation for their work. Challenge coins are a fun and meaningful way to represent your participation in a specific group or event. They’re small coins, tokens, or medallions emblazoned with a custom design representing a specific organization. The rich tradition of sharing challenge coins started in the military and persists today. Many units will present their members with challenge coins to commemorate their service or honor an instance of particularly outstanding work. Challenge coins have also become popular outside the military, as many businesses and clubs will give them to members to represent their participation. Some even create challenge coins for significant life events like weddings, graduations, and memorials. Challenge coins come in a wide variety of sizes and dimensions, so you can customize them to suit your preferences. Before you start designing your own challenge coin, it’s helpful to understand your size options. Let’s take a closer look at challenge coin sizes and how to select the right one for your needs.

Understanding Challenge Coin Dimensions

A challenge coin’s dimensions determine its overall size and shape. Most challenge coins are circular, and key dimensions to pay attention to include diameter, circumference, and width. However, custom challenge coins can be made in other shapes, such as squares or triangles. In this case, you’ll need to pay attention to the coin’s height and width rather than its diameter. When designing your challenge coin , you can choose from a standard coin size or create your own custom design. Regardless of which option you select, you’ll need to pay attention to the dimensions to ensure the size meets your expectations.

Standard Challenge Coin Sizes

When creating a challenge coin, there are many different types of custom challenge coins to choose from. Round coins are the most popular option because of their classic look and feel. Round challenge coins come in several standard coin sizes, usually ranging from 1.5 inches to 2 inches in diameter. This size is ideal because it’s easy to hold in your hand and fits neatly into a wallet, pocket, or coin pouch. Coin owners can easily carry them to show off or trade with others. These standard sizes are most popular in military or corporate settings, which have a long history of giving out challenge coins. However, it’s possible to create challenge coins outside of the standard size range. For example, if you want something that really stands out, you can opt for a bigger 3-inch challenge coin.

Variations in Challenge Coin Thickness

Coin thickness is another dimension to consider when selecting your design. Challenge coins can range anywhere from 1.5 mm to 5 mm in thickness. Many people opt for thicker challenge coins because they have a high-quality premium feel. Thicker coins are also more durable and last longer through wear and tear. However, a thin coin may be more appropriate if you want something very small and compact to carry around with you. Ultimately, the thickness will depend on your individual preferences.

How Shape Affects Size

The shape you choose for your coin will also have an impact on its dimensions. While circular coins are the most popular choice for challenge coins, they’re certainly not the only option. You can also choose custom shapes such as squares, rectangles, ovals, triangles, and cut-to-shape coins . Coins with custom shapes may look larger or smaller than their traditional round counterparts, regardless of their actual dimensions. For example, square and triangular coins can look smaller because of their edges.

Factors Influencing Challenge Coin Size

There are many factors to consider when choosing a size and shape for your challenge coin. Here are a few things to keep in mind.

Purpose and Usage

Thinking about the coin’s intended use can help you determine an appropriate size. For example, commemorative coins or collector’s items are often larger, as it gives them a sense of prestige. However, if you’re creating a coin in bulk for a promotion or a giveaway, you might choose a smaller, more practical size.

Design Preferences

Your design preferences will also influence the size of your coin. You’ll need to find a balance between design complexity and size. For example, if your design is very complex or intricate, a larger coin size will ensure those details are fully visible. Alternatively, simpler designs can look very nice on smaller coin sizes.

Budget Considerations

Your budget is another factor that helps determine the size of your coin. If you’re looking to keep costs down, standard sizes are typically more affordable than custom sizes.

Start Your Custom Challenge Coin Design

Ready to start building your own custom challenge coin? Here’s how to get the process started.

Collaborate with Professionals

A professional coin manufacturer or designer can help you bring your vision to life. They will provide expert advice on appropriate coin sizes and shapes to help you make a decision. When deciding who to work with, choose professionals who have experience designing similar coins. This will increase your chances of getting a high-quality design.

Request Samples and Prototypes

As you navigate the design process, it can be helpful to evaluate a physical coin in addition to a two-dimensional sketch. To do this, ask your coin manufacturer if they can provide samples or even create a prototype of the coin so you can see what your design will look like in real life. It is particularly helpful to take this step before committing to a bulk order.

Hosting a corporate fundraising event is a great way for your organization to give back. Hosting regular fundraising campaigns will help you build strong relationships within your community. These fundraising efforts are also a great way to bring your employees together. Fun promotional activities and items will help get your employees excited about upcoming corporate fundraising events. The more creative your fundraising events are, the more likely your team is to get involved. If you’re hosting an upcoming fundraising event and don’t know where to start, check out some creative company fundraiser ideas to use in your workplace.

The Importance of Corporate Fundraising

Corporate fundraising is an opportunity to support causes that align with your company’s values. This could be anything from wildlife preservation to medical research to feeding the hungry. By hosting a corporate fundraising campaign, you’re using your organization’s relative wealth and power to give back to the community around you, making it a better place for everyone. Select a cause to support that’s directly relevant to your local community, as this can help generate more engagement among employees. The primary purpose of corporate fundraising is to give back to those who need financial support. However, it can also be good for your brand image. Many people like to purchase from brands that share their values. When consumers see that you are hosting a fundraiser for a cause they care about, they might consider purchasing from you in the future. Hosting corporate fundraisers regularly can positively affect your company culture as a whole. It creates a culture of philanthropy and fosters empathy among your team members.

The Role of Personalized Promotional Items in Fundraising

Many popular fundraising ideas for work involve selling promotional items to your employees and their families, with the profits going to a good cause. You can also use promotional items as a reward for employees who are the most successful at fundraising. This creates a sense of competition among your employees that can encourage more participation. You’ll need to offer high-quality items as rewards for this strategy to work. Personalizing these items can make them more unique and appealing to your employees.

Great Promotional Items

One way to make your fundraiser more engaging is to create exclusive promotional items that are specific to each campaign. Some fun examples include challenge coins , lapel pins , and patches . These items can be tailored to each fundraising campaign, making them feel like a unique collector’s item. If you host fundraising campaigns often, you can challenge employees to collect as many promotional items as possible throughout their careers. Loyal employees may even consider these items a badge of honor, signifying their work and dedication to the company and the community as a whole.

Leveraging Branded Giveaways

Branded giveaways are also a fun way to encourage your employees to donate. You can structure your giveaway as a contest with the top donors winning the item or give away items to employees as they reach specific donation thresholds. The most successful fundraising giveaways feature unique, sought-after items your team members will want. For example, you can give away high-quality T-shirts or sweatshirts that are only available during the fundraiser. You can also partner with local brands on exclusive collaborative items to give away. For example, you could work with a local fashion brand to create limited-edition accessories like hats or jewelry.

Creative Charity Fundraising Ideas at Work

Making your fundraisers interactive helps encourage your employees to participate. Creative company fundraising ideas help break up the daily work routine and generate excitement as you all come together for a good cause. Here are some creative ideas to help get you started.

Fun Employee Engagement Activities

Hosting fun employee activities is a great way to get them interested in the fundraiser and foster some team spirit. Examples of exciting and interactive fundraising activities include:

Themed dress-up days

Company game nights

Office scavenger hunts

Potluck or bake sale

Team fitness activities such as sports games or yoga classes

Family-friendly festivals

You can tailor your fundraising activities to match your team’s interests and preferences. For example, if your employees tend to be very active, hosting a sports tournament is sure to stoke their competitive spirit. However, if most of your team has young families, you might want to host a kid-friendly event on a weekend. The easiest way to raise money is to require your employees to make a small donation to participate in the activity. Team members will want to socialize and join in on the fun, so this is an easy, low-pressure strategy that encourages them to donate. If you’re hosting an event outside of regular work hours, you can also make it free to attend but provide other opportunities to donate. For example, if you host a company game night, you could require a donation to play certain games. This makes the event more accessible for employees who want to socialize but may not have much extra money to give right now.

Matching Gift Programs

A matching gift program is another effective way to encourage donations. With a gift matching program, your organization matches the amount that each employee gives. For example, if an employee donates $20, the company donates $20 as well, bringing the total donation up to $40. This strategy is very effective because it doubles the impact of each donation and helps employees feel like they’re making an even bigger difference.

Innovative Business Fundraising Ideas

Raising funds for a good cause doesn’t have to be limited to your workplace. Here are some innovative corporate fundraising ideas to use for your next campaign.

Sponsored Challenges or Competitions

Sponsored physical challenges are a great way to get everyone in your community, including your employees, their friends and family, and even your customers, involved in the fundraiser. Some fun and easy challenge ideas include a run, bike ride, or hike. If you want to host a more unique and intense challenge, you could opt for something like a swim race, ski race, or rock climbing competition. These challenges are effective because they encourage your community to get active and spend time outside. They also help encourage some friendly competition. To raise money, you can charge participants an entrance fee and sell custom merchandise like T-shirts, hats, and water bottles.

Product Sales Benefits

Another easy way to raise money for charity is to sell exclusive products to your customers, with a portion of the sales going to a cause of your choice. This is a very easy way to raise money, as you don’t need to host an event. All you need to do is come up with a product that your customer base will enjoy. One easy way to do this is to create a limited-edition version of a popular product you already sell.

Corporate Charity Event Ideas

If you’re looking for effective employee fundraising ideas, hosting an event is a great place to start. Events can make regular fundraising opportunities feel more exciting. They’re also a perfect opportunity to socialize and build community.

Charity Auctions and Raffles

Auctions and raffles are both popular corporate fundraising options. In an auction, attendees will bid on sought-after items, with the highest bidder taking the item. In a raffle, participants buy numbered tickets, and the attendee with the winning ticket takes home the item. These events are most effective when you feature one-of-a-kind items. You can even partner with local businesses on unique auction items. For example, you could give away exclusive dinners at a popular local restaurant or a custom art piece from a local gallery.

Community-Based Events

Involving the community in your fundraising events helps foster goodwill and encourage participation from local residents. One way to get the community involved is to host a festival featuring local retailers and entertainment, with a portion of admissions and sales going to the fundraiser.

Virtual Fundraisers and Auctions

If you have employees who work remotely or have teams spread across multiple cities, consider hosting a virtual fundraiser or auction rather than an in-person event. This way, you can include your entire team, regardless of their location. By hosting a virtual event, you can include participants from all over the world, whether they’re employees of your organization or not.

Best Practices for Organizing Company Fundraisers

For these fundraising ideas for companies to be successful, you’ll need to plan ahead. Here are some best practices to help you maximize your fundraising efforts.

Set Clear Fundraising Goals

Before the fundraiser launches, set clear, measurable goals. Setting goals will help you stay motivated and give your team something to work toward. Having clear goals in place will also help you determine whether or not the event was a success. Some examples of effective fundraising goals include raising a specific amount of money or getting a certain number of employees to participate.

Promote Your Fundraising Event

To get your employees to participate in the fundraiser, you’ll need to promote it internally and raise awareness. The easiest way to do this is to post announcements on internal communication channels like Slack or Microsoft Teams. Posting on your social media channels can also generate excitement and spread the word. Encourage your employees to share each post on their own profiles to potentially increase the impact of the fundraiser.

Track Success and Gather Feedback

After the fundraiser is over, evaluate your performance so you can make improvements for the future. See how your actual donations compare to the goals you set for your organization when you were preparing for the event. You should also collect feedback directly from your employees to see what they enjoyed and what could have been improved. You can use this feedback to make future events even more successful.

If you’ve been following any recent political campaigns, you’ve probably noticed that politicians on both sides of the aisle often wear custom lapel pins during speeches and events. There’s a long tradition of wearing lapel pins in politics, and they’re often worn to signify support for a specific party, cause, or campaign. If you’re launching your own campaign or want to show support for an existing one, wearing a political lapel pin is a very effective way to do so. At Lone Star Challenge Coins, we offer custom-designed political lapel pins . Whether you want to cheer on a specific candidate or are just feeling patriotic, we’ll help you create a sophisticated lapel pin that adds a touch of class to any outfit. Let’s look at the historical significance of lapel pins worn by politicians and how to design your own political lapel pins.

What Are Political Lapel Pins?

Lapel pins are small accessories that attach to the front of a jacket or dress. They are usually made from metal or enamel and feature small but eye-catching designs. Throughout the years, lapel pins have been used to signify allegiance to a specific group or cause, and this is no different in politics. They’ve become important symbols of support, especially during election years. Politicians and their teams often wear lapel pins to express support for their party or a specific issue they’re focused on. Supporters might wear lapel pins that align with a specific candidate.

Historical Significance of Political Pins

In the United States, the tradition of wearing a lapel pin dates back to the founding of our country. Politicians have been using custom campaign buttons and pins to raise awareness since the 18th century. While many presidents had already worn lapel pins for specific occasions, Richard Nixon popularized the practice in the 1970s. Nixon and his entire staff wore lapel pins featuring the American flag nearly every day during his time in office. After Nixon’s presidency, many politicians and candidates began to wear lapel pins with their day-to-day outfits, not just for special occasions. Former Secretary of State Madeleine Albright was also known for her bold lapel pins and brooches, using them to express herself and complement her professional attire. This included many patriotic pins featuring American symbolism, as well as many pins featuring animals, flowers, and other nature themes. Part of her lapel pin collection is now on display at the Smithsonian Museum in Washington, DC.

Modern Use in Campaigns

Today, candidates and their supporters wear lapel pins as part of their political campaigns. Whether you’re launching a local grassroots campaign or a high-profile candidacy, wearing a lapel pin is an effective way to show your support. Political lapel pins are also a sign of patriotism. Many feature stars, stripes, bald eagles, and other symbols associated with the United States.

Types of Political Lapel Pins

There are several types of political pins used during campaigns and day-to-day political activities. Here are some of the most common lapel pin types you’ll see.

Election Pins

Candidates and their supporters often wear lapel pins or election buttons in the lead-up to voting day. These pins are very effective for raising awareness about a specific candidate or ballot initiative or encouraging people to vote. For avid supporters, election pins also serve as memorabilia. Pins from a historic election can even become a collector’s item in years to come, especially if they are kept in good condition.

Campaign Pins

Political candidates often create custom campaign pins when running for office for their team and supporters to wear. These pins are fun promotional items for the campaign and can be used in fundraising or given out during events.

Presidential Pins

Many presidents have worn lapel pins during their campaigns and time in office. Most presidential candidates have stuck to the American flag theme, carrying on a decades-long tradition. However, some presidential candidates will branch out with other stylish and patriotic accessories.

Custom Campaign Buttons

Campaign buttons are similar to lapel pins in that they can be worn on shirts to represent a political message or cause. In contrast to pins, buttons tend to be larger and circular, and they often feature both text and images. Many of these buttons are made by sandwiching a design printed on paper between a transparent plastic layer and a metal backing.

Designing Your Own Political Lapel Pin

Interested in designing your own custom pins ? Here’s a look at how to create political lapel pins for your own campaigns.

Types of Pins

When designing custom campaign pins, you’ll have several material options to choose from. In particular, you’ll need to decide between a soft enamel or hard enamel finish. A soft enamel pin has texture, allowing you to feel the grooves between each design element. A hard enamel pin has a smooth, shiny finish. Soft enamel pins are faster and more affordable to create, so they’re often a preferable choice if you’re making pins in bulk. However, hard enamel pins are more durable and have a more sophisticated look, so many politicians prefer them, especially for TV appearances, speeches, and other significant events.

Plating and Add-On Options

You’ll also need to choose which metal plating option you’d like to use in your design. Silver and gold are both classic options — it all depends on your personal color preferences. You can also select add-ons like glitter, lights, or gemstones to make your lapel pin even more eye-catching. Add-ons are great if you’re looking for something even more striking than a traditional lapel pin.

Get Started with Your Custom Political Lapel Pins Today

Whether you’re campaigning yourself or just want to support your favorite candidate, political lapel pins are a classy, stylish way to do so.
