FAQS

What are the rules of a military challenge coin?

The best-known tradition is the coin check: get challenged, produce your coin or buy the round. Beyond that, coins are presented for membership, achievement, and respect, and customs vary by unit.

Can a civilian carry a challenge coin?

Yes. Coins given to civilians as thanks or recognition are theirs to carry, and many families carry a service member’s coin.

Who can give a military challenge coin?

Traditionally commanders and senior leaders, but units, veterans groups, and organizations present them too. Custom unit coins are usually commissioned by the unit itself.
